Before buying any light bulbs or lighting products, there are some general lighting terms that consumers need to understand. These lighting terms will be shown on the package of light bulbs. By knowing these terms, consumers can now buy light bulbs that best suit their requirements.
- Wattage (W)
Wattage refers to the consumption of energy. The higher the wattage, the brighter the light, and the more power used.
- Lumen (Lm)
Lumen refers to the amount of light that will be emitted. The greater the lumen count, the higher the amount of light emitted, hence, the brighter the room.
- Kelvin (K)
Kelvin is a measurement of the color temperature of a light in degrees. The higher the temperature, the cooler the appearance of the light.
- Voltage (V)
Voltage measures the electrical output. The greater the voltage, the greater the flow of electrical current.
- Beam angle (˚)
Beam angle is the angle at which the light is distributed or emitted. Which beam angle of light to use depends on the application.
